Week Breakdown
Monday the 10th
Write down both Lexicon #21: Panel and Lexicon #22: Sequence in your notebook.
Take the Graphic novel quiz.
Watch video on Context for the novel: Iranian Revolution, taking notes on the Shah's regime, Western influence, the Iranian Revolution, and Satrapi's Perspective.
Read and discuss chapter 1: "The Veil" (3-9) of Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi.
Tuesday the 11th
Write down Lexicon #23: Secular in your notebook.
Read and discuss chapter 2: "The Bicycle" (10-17), chapter 3: "The Water Cell" (18-25), and chapter 4: "Persepolis" (26-32), chapter 5: "The Letter" (33-39).
Wednesday the 12th
Write down Lexicon #24: Martyr in your notebook.
Finish reading and discussing "The Letter" (33-39) if necessary.
Read all five prompts for Entry #4, choosing the one that you find most interesting.
Complete Notebook entry #4 in your notebook. Be sure to make it a strong body paragraph with a clear claim, context for your evidence, introduced and explaining quote or panel, and analyze explaining why this is important or significant.
Thursday the 13th
Write down Lexicon #25: Memoir in your notebook.
For the first half of class, we'll be completing Notebook Entry #5: Beginning Our Mini-Memoirs in our notebook. Note, this will be a potential draft for the ending assignment.
In the second half, we'll continue reading, annotating, and discussing Persepolis, specifically chapter 6: "The Party" (40-46) and chapter 7: "The Heroes" (47-53).
Friday the 14th
Read, annotate, and discuss chapter 8: "Moscow" (54-61), chapter 9: "The Sheep" (62-71), and chapter 10: "The Trip" (72-79).
Write and share a rant about something you love to hate!

Catch up day! Please complete work that is missing or incomplete before progress reports go out this week. Tomorrow, we will continue to read, annotate, and discuss Persepolis.
Tuesday the 4th
Review pages 40-79 of Persepolis.
Complete Notebook Entry #6, section two of Persepolis, by choosing one of the prompts offered and answering in a body paragraph.
Wednesday the 5th
Read, annotate, and discuss "The F-14s" (pages 80-86), "The Jewels" (87-93), and "The Key" (pages 94-102).
Complete the three questions (one per chapter) for the reading section in your notebook.
Thursday the 6th
Mr. Roberts will be at a conference today and won't be in class. This can act as a catch up day!
Friday the 7th
Read, annotate, and discuss "The Wine" (pages 103-110) and "The Cigarette" (111-117).
Complete Notebook Entry #7, section three of Persepolis, by choosing one of the prompts offered and answering in a body paragraph.

Write down Lexicon #26: Bureaucracy in your notebook.
Read, annotate, and discuss chapter 16: "The Passport" and chapter 17: "Kim Wilde."
Answer the two chapter questions in your notebook.
Tuesday the 18th
Write down Lexicon #27: Motif in your notebook.
Read, annotate, and discuss chapter 18: "The Shabbat" and chapter 19: "The Dowry," finishing Persepolis.
Review the prompts for Notebook Entry #8, choosing the one you find most compelling for tomorrow's writing session.
Wednesday the 19th
Complete the Notebook Entry #8, the last section of Persepolis.
Introduce Unit 3 final assignment, expectations, requirements and timeline.
Complete the two creative writing activities: Exploring the Purpose of Perspective and Metaphor creation.
Thursday the 20th
Complete both creative writing activities: "Exploring the Purpose of Perspective" and "Crafting Meaning out of Metaphors." Note, if you are absent, I'll supply some pre-rolled metaphors for you to unpack.
Look at potential moments or topics for your Unit 3 final assignment.
Week Breakdown
Monday the 31st
Brainstorm impactful moments of our life by writing for 1-2 minutes about each prompt.
Review "Five Potential Prompts" and "How to Structure your Plot."
Choose one prompt and try two plot structures for your piece. Tomorrow, we will be seeing how a short story can fill quite a bit of panels!
Tuesday the 1st
Read "Ark" by Ehud Lavski and Yael Nathan and take note on what they choose to highlight or zoom in and out of.
Look at examples of graphic novels and memoirs for inspiration of art style and panel sequencing.
Start to draft your storyboard for your graphic memoir.
Wednesday the 2nd
We'll go over two of the major requirements of the piece: adding allusions and symbols (or motifs).
Likewise, we'll be finishing our storyboarding and hopefully get to at least 5 pencil sketched panels.
I've also provided 6 student models to use for reference! Check them out if you are stumped on how to effortlessly include allusions and/or symbols.
